ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research

The ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research is recognized throughout the world as the preeminent forum for basic and advanced training in the methodologies and technologies of social-science research. We serve a diverse multidisciplinary and international constituency. Our general instructional philosophy emphasizes the integration of methodological strategies with the theoretical and practical concerns that arise in research on substantive social issues. The ICPSR Summer Program also creates a unique and supportive social environment that facilitates professional networking and encourages the exchange of ideas about the theory and practice of social-science research.

The Summer Program takes place from early June to late August. In addition to two 4-week courses in Ann Arbor, Michigan, ICPSR offers intensive 1-week workshops in Ann Arbor and at several additional sites. The Program's breadth and high quality of instruction have made it the preeminent forum for training in the tools of quantitative analysis. Instruction integrates hands-on data analysis with the theoretical and practical problems that arise in actual social-science research.

ICPSR has offered educational opportunities through the Summer Program since 1963, when the first cohort of 82 participants arrived in Ann Arbor, Michigan, for intensive training in quantitative methods. The Program has grown mightily since that time. It continues to provide quality instruction and to offer an impressive range of course options. In recent years, annual attendance has exceeded 800 participants representing 25 disciplines, approximately 200 institutions, and more than a score of nations. Our faculty is composed of 90 instructors drawn from national and international institutions. They represent a dozen disciplines and are recognized leaders in their fields.

Program

  • The first four-week session runs from June 21 through July 16.
  • The second four-week session runs from July 19 through August 13.
  • Additional courses (in shorter, 3- to 5-day formats) are offered from the beginning of June through the end of August in a variety of locations across the country, as well as in Ann Arbor.
