NetCourse^TM FAQ

1. What is a NetCourse^TM?
   Stata NetCourses^TM are courses offered over the Internet; they vary in length from six to seven weeks. You must have an email address and a web browser to participate.
   
   
2. How does it work?
   A "lecture" is posted to the NetCourse web site each Friday. After reading the lecture over the weekend or perhaps on Monday, participants can post questions and comments to the course discussion area. Course leaders respond to the questions and comments on Tuesday and Thursday. The other participants are encouraged to amplify or otherwise respond to the questions or comments, as well. The next lecture is then posted the next Friday, and the process repeats. After the last lecture, discussion continues for a few additional weeks until the course concludes.

3. How much of my time does it take?
   The course is designed to take roughly 5 hours per week (varies by course).
   
   
4. Is there homework?
   We do not assign howework, but the lectures do include exercises. We suggest that you puzzle over them and ask questions if the solution does not occur to you.
   
   
5. There are three of us here — can just one of us enroll and redistribute the NetCourse material?
   We ask that you not do this. NetCourses^TM are priced to cover the substantial time input of the course leaders. Moreover, enrollment is typically limited to prevent the discussion from becoming unmanageable. The value of a NetCourse ^TM, just like a real course, is the interaction of the participants, both among themselves and with the course leaders.
   
   
6. I've never taken a course by Internet before. I can see that it might work, but then again, it might not. How do I know I'll benefit?
